Maestro Zubin Mehta is one of the world’s most renowned conductors of Western classical music and has conducted numerous celebrated orchestras over several decades. Maestro Mehta is Honorary Conductor of the Berlin, New York and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and ‘Conductor for Life’ of the Israel Philharmonic. He is the recipient of a Kennedy Centre Honour presented by former US President George W Bush and a Padma Vibhushan (highest civilian honour) in his native India, where he is considered that country’s most important cultural export. Maestro Mehta’s career highlights include conducting the first ever ‘Three Tenors’ concert, a joint performance by the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic at the site of the Buchenwald concentration camp, and the 2005 Tsunami Memorial Concert.
We are pleased to extend this special invitation to you on the occasion of Maestro Mehta’s forthcoming visit to Australia. During the welcome dinner, Maestro Mehta will be interviewed and will speak about his experiences over many decades as a leading conductor and global citizen. Members of the Australian World Orchestra will also be proud to present to you a short recital which will showcase why it is that many Australians hold Principal positions with the world’s greatest orchestras.
